From: Doc on 23 Apr 2008 16:57 Experimenting with uploading stereo .flv files to Youtube. From what I've been reading, the trick is to convert to flv that's under certain bitrate thresholds so that YouTube doesn't re-convert them. However, I'm getting inconsistent results. Here are some short files ~11 secs, all files converted from DV avi using Any Video Converter ver 2.5.9 Video 1 - The words "Stereo Test" against a black background and a test tone panned alternating extreme L & R. Obviously in stereo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8MWWaXMV04 Specs: Size 220x176 Video bitrate 256 kbps Framerate 15fps Audio Codec mp3 Audio rate 128 kbps Sample rate 44.1 A/V Sync Basic Original DV file size 43,584kb flv file 188kb Video 2 - A Short segment of a music video made with the exact same specs as above but doesn't appear to be a stereo field Original file size 43,952 kb flv file 578kb http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkWm3jOAYzw Video 3 - Same video as #2 but the audio from #1 above to demonstrate it's obviously in mono Original file size 43,952 kb flv size 578 kb http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSHe2lk2g8E Another observation is that the original source files are slightly different in size even though they're the same length - however 2 & 3 are the same size even though they have different audio but are are larger than 1. Further, there's a tremendous difference in the the resulting flv files - 2 & 3 are over 3x the size of #1. Any thoughts or input as to why I'm getting stereo from one file but not from the others with the same encode settings? Also, what explains the difference in the size of the files? Why is the ratio of file size difference so much greater with the flv files than the original files? I found this one that has pretty decent sound - very distinct stereo separation and the highs aren't badly brittle and aliased sounding. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nD3Hhzgqkrc&NR=1 I wonder how this was done? It was just added recently so it was after some changes YouTube apparently made back in Feb. that I gather made it more difficult to incorporate stereo sound. Thanks for all input.

I got one file to work at 128kbps but so far haven't been able to duplicate it with other source material. Not sure what the difference is.
