I have XP SP2 and somehow about a month ago I started getting this blank
that flashes in my bottom tool bar on intervals of every 15 minutes. I
finally found out it is MS_WebcheckMonitor. Well itýs irritating as
hell and I kept thinking I had some kind of virus or something, but
after running all my anti-virus programs nothing ever showed up.
Anyway, is it ok to get rid of this thing? I searched the web and came
across the following solutions to get rid of it that looked to be the
easiest:

1st one was:

- Apparently going to Tools/Internet Options/Advanced
and uncheck Enable offline items to be synchronized on a schedule
turn's this critter off but it's still in the background and deleting
it may cause IE to get squirelly-

I tried that and it did nothingý so I turned it back on.


2nd Solution:

-Open Command prompt and paste this exactly

REG DELETE
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ShellServiceObjectDelayLoad
/v WebCheck

then this

REG ADD HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Webcheck /v
NoScheduledUpdates /t REG_DWORD /d 1

Reboot. Thats it. -


I did that and I still have the problemý Maybe I did something wrong
while doing the 2nd one? I typed ýYý after the first paste and then
typed ýYý after the second paste.
Anyway, whatever I did above didnýt cure the problem. Is there
something I should do to undo those commands now?



Soooo, I found a third solution below that I havenýt tried yet:

This was a reply asking about MS_Webcheck Monitor

-"ms_webcheckmonitor" has sth. to do with Internet Explorer. Check this

Microsoft article: Q176960 or Microsoft Knowledge Base Article:
176960. If you wish to get rid of this "ms_webcheckmonitor" open a
command prompt and go in your system directory: c:\windows\system32.
Then type: regsvr32 /u WEBCHECK.DLL and the registry entry is gone and
therewith the trouble. Restart to see the result. If you however need
"ms_webcheckmonitor" again just register the WEBCHECK.DLL with:
regsvr32 WEBCHECK.DLL and after a restart it's back online. This
procedure worked fine on my system.

Iým not real sure what all the above entails and after I have already
did the second solution in the Command area is there something I should
do to undo that one before trying the third solution? If the third
solution looks like it would take care of the problem do I just open
the Command prompt and type c:\windows\system32 ( is there any Y/N to
answer?) When I then type regsvr32 /u WEBCHECK.DLL would there be a Y/N
or do I hit enter???

Just wondering also if anyone has gotten rid of this and if that caused
any problems.. Also how did this just appear one day? Is it ok to just
try and ignore it or is it filling up disk space or something?

Open cmd type as you did:regsvr32 /u WEBCHECK.dll But then space and /x
Then press enter,this uninstalls the product
