From: Andy Davison on 1 Sep 2007 13:52 I know this is going to sound really stupid but if you want wireless to work make sure it is enabled in the BIOS first My Dell Inspiron 1300 came with wireless disabled as default though friends of mine who have the same model had it enabled which was why they could get online with wireless and I couldn't even in Windows XP. I can now in Doze and Linux with the WinXP driver through ndiswrapper (this is the first time I have fired up WinXP for over a year) Another good tip for getting online with wireless is to know some dopey plonker who himself wants to go wireless and is prepared to sell you his old 4 ethernet port router for £20 because a) he doesn't realise it is actually a wireless router with 4 ethernet ports despite the BIG word "wireless" on the box and that plastic stick thing in the box that screws on the back of the router and is the aerial and b) he's just paid over £100 for a Belkin wireless kit and doesn't want you to tell his wife he wasted all that money <vbg> -- Andy Davison andy [at] oiyou [dot] ukfsn [dot] org
