Anyone interested in the inner working of the HD 4850 / HD 4870 can read a
good article from ExtremeTech at:
http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,2845,2320865,00.asp

The HD 4850 is available now, the HD 4870 should be announced for
availability in a few more days. The first GPU to reach over 1.2 teraflops
operation for less than $300 just to make you games look spiffy.

I haven't had my HD 3870 for a year yet and I already want to replace it.
Maybe the price for the HD 4870 will go down in price as Christmas
approaches. Hope so.

William.

I'm waiting for 4870 but I want a 1GB version and not 512mb.

Let's hope ATI's partners are listening. I see there's already a 4850 with 1GB. Presumably because
GDDR3 is less expensive than GDDDR5.

I'd be willing to buy a 4870 even if the 1GB version had slightly slower memory - there must be a
lot of headroom at 3.6GHz, especially as the very similar 4850 manages with 2GHz.
