I done figured it out! I had to click on the left slider icon next to the
little color wheel (god forbid we were allowed to click on that!) to bring up
the color selector. Yee-haw.

I'm off and running again!

Hi together,
I had the same problem over several weeks.
Today I started to clean up my disc and uninstalled several
applications.
One of it was the not working Safari browser, that caused lots of
errors on startup.
Since then, my gradient tool in Fireworks (CS3) is working again!!!
Crazy but true ....
