From: Muzzi on 21 May 2008 04:58 I'm using XP Pro on a network that's mainly XP Pro. There's a printer connected to my computer which is shared. I wish to view the owners of documents that print. All I see is owner GUEST. How can I view computer names or users. The computers are part of a domain and part of a workgroup. Any ideas? -- Muzzi

If you're using Simple File Sharing, this is normal. > How can I view > computer names or users. The computers are part of a domain and part > of a workgroup. That isn't possible. You can belong to a domain, or you're in a workgroup. All users should be logging into the domain, not into local accounts.... > Any ideas?

If so, then users on another machine login to the Guest account. Hence, as far as your computer knows, the Guest account is the user. You should disable simple file sharing. As I have no experience with a domain, I can't say for certain how to proceed. But with simple file sharing disabled, every remote user must connect to an account on your machine, and the most convenient way is to make the accounts have the same name everywhere. Jim
From: Jack (MVP-Networking). on 21 May 2008 16:19 Hi If your topology is peer-to-peer. I.e. there is No real central server running Server OS (like Windows 2003/2008), then you are on a workgroup. All computer should be set to be on this group and configured as follow. Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings, http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is allowed to be shared.
