Sometimes people put on labels from larger HDDs before making an Ebay sale. I imagine that happens in some shops as well. What is the HDD model as reported by software, e.g. the Windows system view? From: William on 16 Apr 2008 02:16 I just threw in a 500 gb drive into my computer for Christmas. Didn't have a problem to speak of. Running XP Pro SP2c. Ditto: Did you partition the hd correctly? Prior to using a 500GB HD and installing XP or Vista and not wanting multi partions I just stuck the HD in ,making sure the BIOS detected it and install the OS. Whent asked if I wanted to use the entire HD I said yes and the OS formated the drive and that was it. With the 500GB HD the OS only formatted 250GB of the drive. That was my question, is that a limitation on the OS. Any way, I formatted 500GB HD with Partition Magic and then installed Vista. Works fine and I have a single partion as I wanted in the first p[lace. Thanks anyway, guys, for the suggestion. > >Arno |
