From: kunal on 15 Apr 2008 09:52 hi, i am using the blackjack II (wm6 standard version) since sometime now. although i have used smartphones and ppcs a lot, this is a problem i came across for the first time in this phone only and havent been able to figure out. all my contacts appear fine in the 'contact's' folder/list. but when i try to dial from the home screen, some names are not shown only as options. many times the combination of the letters give many options but not the one that i intend to dial. so i find it from the 'contacts' tab and i get the one that was missing. i checked whether i wrote it in surname, company name or first name and all that is also fine. infact i have syncd my contacts, apptmts, tasks etc from the computer and the data is as it was since my last smartphone which did not give any such problems. please advice... its irritating as hell and threatens to dislodge me as an avid windows phone user permanently.... and i dont want to go there! help... AFAIK, the "smartdialing" softwre is manufacturer-specific, so it isn't surprising it functions differently on different devices. > please advice... its irritating as hell and threatens to dislodge me > as an avid windows phone user permanently.... and i dont want to go > there! My guess is that it uses the "file as" field as it's source. In some devices I've used, it would ignore company names IF the same contact also have a first name/last name. I.e. "John Smith" of "ABC Corporation" would display in the smart dial if I keyed "Joh..." or "Smi...", but never if I keyed "ABC" UNLESS I had "ABC Corp." as a separate contact. I suspect that's your workaround- create separate contacts for those who have both name and company name fields.

Sadly, I'm stumped. Sounds like a bug in the speed dial software for at particular phone. I suspect you'll have to contact Samsung, report the bug, and hope they correct it in a future ROM release... |
