Hello

I was doing some calculations (normal operations like multiplication
etc.)
and the calculatro has frozen. No power off possible etc.
So I have removed the batteries. After power on it came the error
Warning: Invalid card data, and there is always starting with an 1 in
the entry line.
Then I have removed the 32k original hp memory card and removed
batteries again.
No if I use digits 0, 4 or 7 the input line marks always 01, 41 or 71
i.e. it appends
automatcly a one but the digit 1 does not work.
change sign button (+-) also appends a 1, tan button enters only a 1
but does not calu

If I press on button the calulator freezes ...
And than it takes some time after removing the battery that I can start
it again!!
Ok at the moment it does not start again. Maybe just now as testing
again to write
he died ... Now putting on the display is very messed and no input can
be done ...

Does anybody have any information (apart from throw the piece ..)
Is there any chance to still repair this nice calculator ??

Does I have to do an "reset" after removing the memory card? If so
how?

Greetings and thanks a lot for any information

Did you replace the battery in the memory card?

Your memory card is not damaged.
The problem is linked to the initialization of the memory card. It may
happen time to time with the HP 48SX or the HP 48GX. Most of the time even a
memorized data remains in the memory and you can get it back.

To fix this issue: the best way is to insert the memory card in a HP 48GX !
Then to execute the "PINIT" instruction. Pb will be immediatly fixed.

But sorry, as HP 48SX doesn't integrate the PINIT instruction and I don't
know any other way than using the HP 48GX.

Best Regards

PINIT just tries to store something into each port,
then deletes it, during the course of which
(provided the card was not write-protected)
an "end of data marker" (20 bits of zeros)
will be appended, following any group
of valid objects;
if even the beginning of data is not valid,
then the "end marker" will be the first thing in the card,
and the card will appear empty.

So on a 48SX, just enable writing and store anything;
if by any chance you think that some precious,
unrecoverable data was already supposed to be on the card,
then DON'T do this, but rather make that card read-only
and try to locate some data recovery program at www.hpcalc.org
