From: Arthur Entlich on 10 Apr 2008 09:21 The stuff I buy is 99%. It is true each country has differing definations of rubbing alcohol. In the UK, and most of Europe the rubbing alcohol contains no or very little isopropyl, but it North America I see everything from 40% up to 99% and in North America isopropyl is interchangeably referred to as "rubbing" alcohol. However, closer observation revealed that the pickup roller was not moving at all. It isn't even trying to pick up. The green light for the tray is on, indicating that paper has been detected in that tray. But it apparently does not try to feed it!? ** Posted from http://www.teranews.com **

Can you hear a click when the printer tries to feed paper? If so then that is the solenoid pulling in. It is difficult to get at the parts that control tray 2 (cassette tray) feeding on this printer. If you or someone you know is happy to do some fairly tricky dissasembly just let me know and I will try to help. You will need a meter to check the solenoid Tony MS MVP Printing/Imaging

Certain of my print jobs default to the upper tray on the PH5p - notably envelopes and labels. My guess is that you checked this out first, but thought I'd mention it.

Certain of my print jobs default to the upper tray on the >PH5p - notably envelopes and labels. My guess is that you checked this out >first, but thought I'd mention it. I thought this was irrelevant, as I have had it disconnected from the PC and just initiating test prints by pressing both panel buttons. I've powered the printer off and on and pressed the reset button numerous times so there is no persistent setting. (I assume -- is this correct?) As a last resort before spending a day dragging it across town to get it repaired (at a cost only slightly less than the replacement cost), I connected it back to the PC and changed the Windows printer properties paper source from "Automatically Select", is it has been for the last couple of years, meaning it will pick up first from the lower cassette tray (2) then the multi-purpose (1). I changed that to "Tray 2 (Paper Cassette)". This prints! Changing it back to "Automatically" and it tries, and fails, to print from the MP tray. So I can make it work by explicitly selecting the cassette. So this gives me a work-around. This seems consistent with the printer detecting paper in the MP tray when it is in fact empty. What could cause that and is it fixable? ** Posted from http://www.teranews.com **
