Hope you have a big bladder then ;-) A large number of Germans, especially in the larger cities, can speak English - and a lot want to practice their English as well, so my attempts to learn German were somewhat hampered at first :-P > In fact, hardly any of us can speak anything fluently > and if you ask our Britt Cousins that would include "English!" There are a lot of Novell users in Germany as well. When I left the UK in 2002, none of my clients used Novell - I don't think I'd seen a Novell installation since around 1991. When I got here a lot of my friends and customers still had large Novell installations. > We are neither this formal in our newsgroups or as > conscious of bandwidth and resource conservation concerns as our > European counterparts. Isn't that what Newsgroups are all about? > > Thank you, Will! Rambling and making offhand remarks is OK, trolling isn't, and we get enough cross-posting from c.o.l.a and Windows evangelists who want to bad mouth *nix that anything resembling a troll or flame will get you pretty quickly plonked. Because of the copyright issues, the OP should just have posted the link (and set his line length to an acceptable limit :-D). There are plenty of threads that break down into off-topic discussions and friendly banter. > PS > > The last time I spoke with a German visitor to my country, I felt as if > my grammer was under a microscope as she lamblasted my every gramatical > error. What goes around comes around! German is very strict about grammar and English can be very lax in comparrison. Therefore many Germans have a much better grasp of English grammar than a lot of the English people I know, because grammar is more important than vocabulary! I've been living in Germany for just over 3 years now and I still make mistakes with my German grammar - and people love my English accent :-P Dave

But what he did is against copyright laws, the DOD might not mind - don't they get an exemption from some copyright and patent laws anyway? - but the rest of us are open to prosection for violation of copyright laws... While reproducing the article might have been acceptable on an internal DOD news server, on a public news server it would be clearly illegal if the OP had not first obtained the permission of the author. In which case he would probably have had to include something like "reproduced in full with the express/kind permission of the author." As he didn't do that, he has probably broken the copyright law.
