From: Daddy on 13 Sep 2008 12:25 Plus - and please correct me if I'm wrong - I believe your Windows installation is BIOS-locked to a Dell computer. Yes. It could likely be made to work with a repair install of Windows XP - but that assumes a lot of things. 1) If you perform the XP repair with the Dell-badged WinXP CD, you might have product key/activation issues. I'm skipping any Microsoft legality/licensing discussion here. 2) If the HP model was never sold with Windows XP pre-installed by HP (ie - like the Dell XPS420, which was sold only with Vista), you may have difficulties in locating XP device drivers for the system. If that HP model was sold new with XP, then I'd locate and download those drivers before moving forward with anything else. At best the operation of moving the drive over will likely be a headache. At worst it may not work at all either with a repair or fresh/clean install of XP. Good luck. Stew

Even for the most recently built systems with all the new sparkling chipsets, XP drivers are available somewhere. The challenge is to find them. Hint: NOT on the crummy HP web site...
