Err, that should be "not that it would hurt" of course, a new bios is
always a good idea (especially if you run a very early version).

My A7V8X-X has a Hitachi 160Gb drive and all of it is recognized
by the BIOS, by Windows XP SP2, and by Fedora Linux Core 4.
Some drives have a jumper that "clips" them to a reduced size
for older BIOSes and the jumper has to be removed or moved to
enable the full capacity of the drive. Look at your jumper block
and check your documentation.

What OS and service pack level are you using?
