Had this problem on my laptop. Google on "icedtea java", and
install that.
(Check your system doesn't have it in its software library).

Does it actually work with real websites?

I use this functionality to bid on live liquidation auctions. These
are done as java applets. So it better work.

Let me know how well it works. I'm contemplating the move to 64 bit.
If it does work, that's another hurdle out of the way.
