I just received this email from Verizon:
.........................................

Dear Verizon Online Customer,

As a Verizon Newsgroup service user, we wanted to let you know about
some important changes that we will soon be making to our Newsgroup
service.

On June 24, 2008, we will be modifying our Newsgroup offerings to only
offer groups in the Big-8 Newsgroup hierarchies, which are listed below.
The 0.verizon.* newsgroup hierarchy will also continue to be
available. Users will not be able to post or download from any other
newsgroups using our Newsgroup service.

comp.*
humanities.*
misc.*
news.*
rec.*
sci.*
soc.*
talk.*

...........................................
Any suggestions for a "replacement" for Verizon's newsgroup service?
(Free ones?). If I wasn't using a sub-account on Verizon (and had a job
so I could afford a different ISP), I'd get it from Comcast or
something. I've always used Seamonkey for the "news", so I have no idea
what else to use. Verizon is really sucking worse than ever!

Also, lotsa threads about this fsckup in news.software.readers (et al).

BTW, I hope Mario Cuomo enjoys living in his cramped ignorant headspace.

Check 'em out. IMO, I pay for services if they're worth it TO ME. This is
one of the reasons I do NOT have a cellphone, or cable/satellite TV.

JMO; YMMV...

Really, it's (wyrd) at airmail, dotted with net. DO NOT SPAM IT.
I toss GoogleGroup posts from gitgo (http://improve-usenet.org).

The Usenet4All.se filters out GG and also it is slow sometimes to show
the new posts and miss posts.

The servers I use:
root(a)penne : grep ^server /etc/leafnode/config|awk '{print $NF}'

Look at terranews. Cost about $4 one-time for setup but it's free after
that. Latency is a bit long but posts are usually there in a few minutes
or so.

Mario Cuomo? Surely you jest.

Please check your facts before your outrage spews all over your
keyboard. I suspect you mean Andrew Cuomo, not Mario. Mario is
long since retired from politics.

Neither Mario nor Andrew are or ever were mayors of New York City.
