I need to see what everyone recommends for headphones. Mostly for recording
(vocals/guitar) so closed with as little leakage as possible is a must.
Since the 80's I've always used Fostex T20's and I love them but mine have
seen their last days. I know I could just order another pair (and they've
made some improvements) but at this price I thought I'd check and see what
else is out there. Some pluses I'd like.

* Cord comes from one earpiece only. If you can switch this manually (I know
you could do it with Sonar so know big deal) would be a plus.

* A friend let me borrow a pair of Audio-Technicas I believe once that had a
nice volume slider about halfway down the cord. That was REALLY nice.

* A good wireless would be even better in my condition (self-recordist in a
wheelchair). RF only though. No IR.

The model I see most often recommended is the Sony MDR-7506. If anyone has
any experience with these I'd love to hear about them.

Any help you can give me I'd appreciate. I see a lot of people using Harvey
Gerst's MoreMe phones but these sound built more for "disposability" (though
they claim to be quite tough) and cheap to replace than good sound. But I
know Harvey and I can't imagine him putting his name on something that
didn't sound good.

Thanks in advance.

I'm lovin' my Ultrasone Proline 650's. Very neutral. I would even mix
on them, if I had to.

Ricky,

This is a real can of worms because its so subjective. My vote is Sony
7506. They are too bright for some folks, but you aren't going to mix
with them.. just track. They aren't wireless, but that can be done
outboard I think. You will get a lot of opinions and at least develop a
list of models to go audition.

I was referred a long time ago to AT ATH-m40's and have loved them
ever since. Great sound at a decent price. There used to be a model
(m40-something) with a hyped bass - never used them, but I can't
imagine you'd want those. Also, recently AT upgraded to ATH-m50.
Haven't tried 'em yet, but they've gotten very good press.

How much do you want to spend?

I'm happy with my Sennheisers, sorry don't recall the model now, they were
around $70 but that was many moons ago, could be more or less now.
Sennheiser offered a separate extension cord that included the in-cord
volume slider which proved very useful. It is two sliders, one for each
ear, so one ear can be muted if desired. I've never tried mixing with them
but I suspect they might not be too bad in that department either.

For others (singers and musicians plugged into the headphone amp) I got the
studio deluxe version of the "More Me" headphones:

They aren't the prettiest and they are substantial :-) but they are really
good for tracking, aren't expensive, and can take a beating. The cord is on
one side, they're marked right and left and two people can share a set by
detaching the ear from the headpiece. Highly recommended if not needed for
mixing.
