I have WinXP on my laptop and everything else works perfectly
including any other USB device. The HP 50g software and driver seem
to load fine and Device Manager shows “HPx9G DEVICE” with no problems.

However the USB Icon does not appear in the task bar at the bottom of
the desktop as you would normally expect when a USB device is
connected.

Also the “Calculator Connectivity Kit“ application gives this prompt
when I click on the "Quick Connect to the Calculator" icon:

“Conn4x
Error (No device detected, Check the cable connection and the
calculator.”

So somehow the driver is not talking to the “Calculator Connectivity
Kit“ application yet Device Driver thinks everything is OK. However
Windows does not show the usual USB Icon at the bottom of the desktop.

I have tried deleting and reloading both the Calculator Connectivity
Kit (using “Add or Remove Programs”) and the HPx9G DEVICE using Device
Manager.

If I delete the HP USB driver using Device Manager, only then my
laptop will respond with the USB Icon in the task bar at the bottom of
the desktop, and the usual prompt “Welcome to the Found New Hardware
Wizard” will appear.

I have also tried re-loading the HP driver from the New Hardware
Wizard (after deleting the HP driver) and directing it to the CDROM
but that did not work either.

Help please!

There is probably plenty in that search you could find.

However, I can't think of many people that prefer using the
connectivity kit over just sticking your SD card into the computer and
dragging/dropping. The only thing you can't do with an SD card is
take screen shots. I recommend using the card only. Much easier and
much less hassle.

I just spent a bunch of time with the link you referred to and there
is nothing I could find specifically relating to my problem sorry to
say.

Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Before click on the Connx49, do you turn on the "Xmodem Server" mode
on the calc ? ( I mean Right shift and Right cursor). If not this
will be the problem.

The calc should show "Xmodem Server, Waiting for command" before you
can connect it to the PC.

When you plug in the USB port the driver identifies the calc, but
could not talk to it, until Xmodem has being initiated.

Daniel.
