This is a link to a chart of different specifications of Athlon and
Sempron processors. I was looking to do a cheap upgrade of my DAW.
Nothing earth shattering but enough to notice. Because of the
availability of a swap of motherboard and CPU the cost of them has been
negated. IOW, I pull out my Asus A7S333 with an Athlon Xp2100+
processor and a 1 gig stick of RAM and exchange it for a Asus socket
754, nVidia chipset nForce 3 board with a Sempron 2800+ process and a 1
gig stick of PC3200 Ram. The only thing I have to invest is my time.

The L2 cache is the same, the internal clock is a little slower 1.6k
compared to 1.73. The part that I don't quite understand is the
comparison with the external clock of the Xp2100+ (266 MHZ) compared to
the Hypertransport speed of the Sempron which is 800 MHZ. I've been
told by one person at a computer shop that the Sempron with the PC3200
Ram should outpreform the Athlon. He builds his basic systems using
Semprons so he might have a bias.

Can anyone share an opinion on this?

I'm actually in pursuit of a USB friendlier combination. My current
system really balks at USB devices and gives me blue screens frequently
with SONAR. My workaround has been a USB-less profile.
