From: OscartheGrouch on 9 Jan 2008 15:24 My problem, all of a sudden my computer acts as if it had no keyboard and no mouse attached to it, although it does, and although I have tried others. It gets to the logon screen and sits waiting for me to logon. But I can't as the keyboard is just dead, as is the mouse. I can't figure out how to do anything with it as it doesn't accept input from keyboard so I can't go into bios or any other task requiring a keystroke. Before I taqke it somewhere to be looked at I thought I'd try here. TIA for any suggestions. (AMD athalon 2800+, 1 gig sdram corsair, EVGA geforce 6800, win xp pro.)

Are you sure they are not reversed??

These are both ps2 or psp or whatever, not usb. Others I've tried were as well. Maybe I need to get ahold of a usb mouse and key, see if that works.

I have had many issues in the past with the PS\2 ports or their controller breaking - the board works, but the PS\2 ports dont. It tends to affect Athlon board more than Intel in my experience. You can try buying a USB card or using built-in USB ports and see if this might work. If USB works, you are pretty much assured its a fault in the PS\2 ports or controller - sad to say, the onboard USB ports often fail shortly after the PS\2 ports. Usually followed by everything else. |
