From: Steve/Aus on 1 Jul 2008 22:11 Some help appreciated here. I am looking to buy an inkjet printer for small commercial runs of labels. It only has to be A4 size. We are a commercial label printer and have the chemically treated stocks suitable for inkjet machines. (The coating makes dye inks waterproof). However, I am looking at 4800 dpi or better, I need a machine that is reasonably quick, I prefer solvent inks so I can print synthetic stocks. I prefer separate ink cartridges. Six colour is better than CMYK and the I don't want to pay exhorbatant prices for replacement ink cartridges and print heads. Is there such a beast available? Steve W (in Aus)
From: Arthur Entlich on 3 Jul 2008 03:44 I can't think of any of the typical consumer machine companies that makes such a machine (by which I mean Epson, Canon, Lexmark and HP (unless HP has something from a special division). None of them use solvent inks. Also, they all charge a small fortune for OEM ink cartridge replacements. You may wish to look at some of the Flaar reports on solvent inkjet printers which are available via the URL below: http://www.wide-format-printers.org/reports_wide_format/autodownloads_flaar_reports.php3 I'm not sure you'll find many small sized printers in this category, however.
