So, long story short: cweiske beat the server until it sent mail again. :S

Ah neat. Screenshots, mockups etc most welcome

Ok, I think it finally worked... Could it be that the Username may not
contain uppercase letters? Because that is the only thing that is common
to both my attempts at creating a user account that passed the nefarious
'Invalid Username' check.

By the way, my previous account "rwfsfsfsfsdfsfdsfsd" was apparently
invalidated, probably because I took too long to confirm, the
confirmation page gave the error:

ERROR:
cannot find request

But the bug report page still found an account with my email adress and
would not continue... The 'Forgot your password?' page also didn't know
about my unconfirmed account. Still, I could create a new account... so
barring any further obstacles I'll be filing a bug report soon...
