I?ve got a client that wants to give away memory sticks (in this case Jump
Drives) with a little multimedia project on the stick. They want the project to
be cross platform. Putting a Mac and PC projector on the same stick is no
problem, but the client is an agency where everything has to be perfect.
They?re used to hybrid CD?s where Mac users see only the Mac projector and
Windows users don?t see anything at all ?cause we autostart the CD. They also
don?t like seeing the .ds store and .trash files that the Mac throws on the
stick, but, if we remove the files on a PC, when the stick is returned to the
Mac the projector is no longer recognized as an app.

Anyone know if you can hybrid partition a memory stick and get it to behave
like a CD with autorun for Windows?

Yeah, but you have to get a special kind of USB stick. Windows is
designed to keep anything from a removable drive from auto-starting, so
it has to see a portion of the drive as a CD rather than USB. You can
get these kind of USB sticks from a company called UDRW. You can check
their web site out for information at http://www.udrw.com

If you're in the States, I've ordered some of them from their stateside
distributor. His name is Joe Koyanagi. You can reach him at
949-756-2028, or e-mail him at joe(a)hsc-us.com

The sticks work just like they claim.

Hope that helps.
