I don't have internet phone service, but I sure as heck wouldn't trust
Comcast with it. Besides the outages, their "customer service" is about as
dismal as it gets. .

Yes, service is definitely spotty.

Just to add an interesting note here, two weeks ago after firing up my new
HDTV, I got a DVR HD box from Comcast, Motorola Model DCH3416, (has two
tuners, and a hard drive). Performance was glitchy. Swapped out the box at
our local Comcast office with another DCH3416. That one was worse in that
the channels were jumbled. For example when I dialed in the Science
Channel, I got VH1 music. More than a dozen channel assignments were
jumbled like that.

This time I placed a phone call and a tech came over. After a quick check,
he replaced the box with the previous model series DCT3416 which worked
flawlessly. After chatting with him for a few minutes, he said that new
model, DCH3416 has been a poor performer with all kinds of problems.

The interesting observation at the local office is that they had more that a
few dozen of the 'flawed' models on the shelf that they have been passing
out. Comcast must have hundreds of these around causing service calls!
