There is a considerable performance and stability difference between
Ubuntu and RHEL or Suse Enterprise Linux.

Solaris is Solaris, none of this "Enterprise" nonsense.

This is the inane discussion I've been talking about...

Solaris is an OS developed by a single company, so of course Solaris is
Solaris.

Linux, however, is developed, packaged and distributed by a multitude of
different companies, groups and individuals so, in the case of Linux,
"Enterprise" is in no way nonsense.

But the comparison was OpenSolaris vs. Ubuntu, wasn't it? What has that
to do with RedHat or Novell versions? But OpenSolaris/Solaris is well up
to a match against them both on performance and stability plus ease of
administration, support and features.

Yes it was.

Allow me to quote myself: "There is a considerable performance and
stability difference between Ubuntu and RHEL or Suse Enterprise Linux."

Any comparison of Linux and Solaris should be with a distribution of Linux
that targets the business production environment not a distribution that's
attempting to compete directly with Windows on look and feel. Unless a
beauty contest is the core interest.

Of that I have no doubt, nor was it ever in question... I wouldn't say the
same of Ubuntu however.
