Hi

Currently we are running our print server on solaris 2.6 running
JetAdmin Utility for UNIX (Rev. D.06.21). We plan to migrate this to a
brand new server running soalris 8 running JetDirect Printer Installer
for UNIX Version E.10.18. We have more than 300 print queues and we do
not intend to recreate them on the new server, instead we plan to copy
over files from old print server to new one. I was just wondering is
there a way to migrate this print queues? If yes, then what all files
need to be copied over?

You want to change the Jetadmin software to Jetdirect, but you don't
want to re-create the queues on the new machine? Since the Jetdirect
software is an intimate part of the queue files (the interface scripts
and the programs they invoke), the approach you want to take will not
work very well.

Merely copying files will copy over the old, obsolete Jetadmin
interface scripts for the printers. It will also copy the Solaris
2.6 version of the printer configuration files, which aren't the
same as the Solaris 8 ones. (Solaris 8 has some improvements over
2.6)

The last I knew, HP had a script for migrating Jetadmin printer queues
from one machine to another, and it might also handle upgrading from
Jetadmin to Jetdirect.

Yes, it's called transferqueue, and has a man page. At least it's
in my installation of JD printer installer E.10.34. Never used it,
though.

Maybe the two commands addqueue/multiaddqueue, which allow creation
of print queues for JD, are helpful for the original poster, too.
