From: SDR on 14 Jan 2006 19:56 Need to reinstall XP on K8V-MX SATA drive but do not have the SATA drivers CD or floppy (not supplied with PC). This has Via chipset. XP asks for a floppy when I press F6 on install but cannot find the driver on Asus site. Help please!

First of all, if you go to the FAQ page, you can look up FAQs for motherboards. The trick is, to find a motherboard which is older than your motherboard, and uses some of the same hardware. The older motherboards typically have more FAQ entries. The A7V600 uses an 8237 Southbridge (and the claim is, it supports RAID0, RAID1, and JBOD - a single disk is a JBOD configuration, and all that should be needed is the RAID driver to use it). This is a typical install instruction for an 8237 Southbridge connected hard drive: http://support.asus.com.tw/faq/faq_right_second_detail.aspx?kb_guid=8ADB2448-6589-98FD-A547-C851C20182BB&SLanguage=en-us "Question I have only one HDD, but it's SATA HDD. Can I use it to install Windows XP on A7V600 without building RAID? Answer Yes, you can install Windows XP with one SATA HDD on A7V600. Please first copy the driver from A7V600 support CD \Drivers\VIARAID\DriverDisk\SATA\*.* into root directory of?floppy disk. (i.e. root directory of floppy disk should contain \pide and \sata folders, txtsetup.oem and vt6420 files.) Then, boot system by Windows XP installation CD, when the below message show up, press "F6". "Press F6 if you need? to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver". Then, press "S" to specify additional device when next screen show up. Put the driver floppy disk you made and? press enter to continue. (If the floppy disk is made successfully, the installation program will ask for selecting driver. Please then select "VIA Serial ATA RAID Controller(Windows XP)".) After SATA driver loaded and Windows XP can recognize SATA HDD, you can continue to install Windows XP as usual. (If the driver is selected successfully, but the installation program cannot find your hard drive. Please check whether the hard drive is connected correctly both SATA cable and power cable.) Download: http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/sock754/K8V-MX/RAID.zip and look for "DrvDisk" folder. Copy the contents to a floppy, so the txtsetup.oem is at the top level. Then install Windows and use F6 to install the contents of the floppy. Best guess, Paul
From: MYOB on 15 Jan 2006 07:41 I have just installed XP on a SATA drive on a K8V-MX. Make sure that the Onboard Devices Configuration, Onboard SATA-IDE is set to SATA and not Raid in the BIOS I then booted from the XP CD and didnot need to press F6 or load drivers from floppies. Can this be due to BIOS version?

In the manual section "Onboard Devices Configuration", there is: Onboard SATA [Enabled] options=enable or disable Onboard SATA BootROM [Enabled] options=enable or disable Onboard SATA-IDE [RAID] options=RAID or SATA Maybe if SATA is disabled, the other two disappear ? Try MYOB's suggestion first, and see if Windows sees the drive in SATA mode well enough to do the install without F6. If it still doesn't work, you can always try RAID mode and F6 install a RAID driver to get some kind of JBOD working. Paul
