Just got a Coolscan 9000 ED, and am having trouble scanning my
old ~6.5 x 11 cm negatives. The 6x7 max seems built into the
software, but that cuts the image off at about 2/3.

Does it need the panoramic holder?
or can I do it going through another program, eg photoshop?

Unfortunately the scanner has a hardware limit of 6x9. You have
to scan in two parts and combine in software.
