about the linux ATI proprietary drivers writers team
I would like to know whether it is normal that ATI releases proprietary drivers for linux that are quite a lot more buggy and a less fine than for windows? i've never seen any bug under windows, while the one for linux seems to be even less reliable than the open source one. the acceleration is really awefu... 1 Feb 2008 00:46
Why is my Linux so slow?
Actually, Win2000 doesn't do any better so we can't blame Gnome or the video drivers. This system never performs better than sluggish. Debian etch Supermicro P6DGE, Intel 440GX chipset Dual P3 600 Katmai 3*256M PC100, regular latency, unbuffered, non-ECC, non-parity Compaq branded GeForce3 Ti500 AGP, free driv... 28 Jan 2008 10:45

OUTCOME -- Partition troubles on a GIANT storage server
This was a lot more trouble than I thought as gparted was refusing to create partitions bigger than 793 GiB. All kinds of tools like parted and such were not able to create a large enough logical volume. Finally, this sequence worked: $ aptitude install lvm2 $ reboot after reboot: $ modprobe dm-mod ... 25 Jan 2008 15:37
Quick question on printers...
Hi group, Apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place, but this seemed the most likely group to help with my query. I own, and am reasonably happy with an Olivetti Any_Way wireless printer. I have two Linux (Suse 10.3/KDE) desktops and one, identically setup Dell laptop. My primary PC is also dual boot, wit... 25 Jan 2008 07:46

How to make DVD/RW drive work with e.g., Slackware 12.
No matter what flavor Linux I use my new Sony DVD/CDROM RW drive won't boot from or recognize DVD media. One warning message from Debian said that because I didn't have an 80 wire cable I was restricted to a speed of 33 units. I also wonder if my AMD cpu etc. purchased some years back is limiting me. I can set vari... 26 Jan 2008 13:58
Overclockable Server Motherboards
I'm starting to plan my next system. I would like to have support for > 8G of RAM which puts me on a server motherboard. I'll probably use a pair of 3GHz dual core 45nm Xeons which I would like to overclock if possible. My current fastest compute server is an 8G Core2 E6700 overclocked to 3GHz so the next syste... 26 Jan 2008 12:51
