What technology for a new disk array?
I'm going to buy a new disk array of some sort to plug into a computer running Linux. In days past, I'd simply have used SCSI. I happen to have a couple of arrays already that use SATA drives but which connect to the host via SCSI. But I also have a small array connected using eSATA, and it seems to work ... 27 Jul 2008 01:17
Why do not CRT/LCD monitors come with USB?
These days, every possible accessory seems to be "bluetooth" / USB interfaced. But I've never seen a "USB" monitor advertised. (neither bluetooth, of course) Neither CRT (who buys those!? :) ) nor LCD. Why is that? A bandwidth limitation? Or a need that doesn't exist? I'm having trouble with spontaneous port resets during heavy write operations to usb-storage devices, on an old IBM Thinkpad 240 laptop that supports only USB 1.1 (UHCI, Intel chipset). Kernel is 2.6.24 w/PREEMPT. So long as the only USB device attached is the thumb drive or hard drive, everything works OK (alb... 14 Jul 2008 18:52
Wake On Lan from ACPI state G3?
I've been beating my head against the wall for a couple days now with Wake-On-Lan. I can get it to work if the target PC is in ACPI states G1 or G2, but not G3. From what I've been able to find on the 'net, I'm not even sure this is possible. Is it possible to use Wake-On-Lan to boot a computer from ACPI state ... 12 Jul 2008 07:26
