I am looking for a piece of hardware, which I know exists. I need a
receiver device that connects to a wifi signal and connects also to a
wireless router (presumably a coaxial cable).

Would you be referring to a wireless client device that connects to
a wireless router cable modem?

Yep, sounds like you want what they call a wireless client adapter or
wireless ethernet bridge. Go to Newegg.com and search for wireless
client. There are many.

They connect to the pc by ethernet twisted pair cable, not coax,
though.
