From: The Breadmaster on 23 Apr 2008 18:14 I am looking into building a media server/internet gateway, and I'm thinking about the M2N-SLI as it has an onboard RAID-5 controller and dual gigabit ethernet. I plan to run Ubuntu 7.10 on it. Video and sound are not important, the machine is going to live in a closet. Access will be via samba for files, and ssh for administration. (I may think about running some sort of remote display technology like VNC or X to access the gui later on.) Questions: - Has anybody tried ubuntu 7.10 with this board? Does it just work out of the box or do you need to mess around with drivers? - I know the board has six SATA slots - can I make a single RAID-5 with six drives? If I did that, would I be able to boot from it? If not, what are the limitations? The manual is pretty unclear on what exactly you can and can't do with the RAID controller. I'm thinking 6*750GB drives would be plenty of storage for a while. thanks
