iCab and caches and home server
Running a home server I have noticed that iCab (but not Safari) fails to load recent changes to linked CSS files. I have the prefs set rationally and as recommended by iCab "Load files from best source" which depends on the server notifying the browser that there has been an update. The server (that comes with ... 11 Jul 2008 02:46
Parallels and Boot Camp integration
I just got a copy of Windows XP that I intend to install under Boot Camp. I also have Parallels installed on my MacBook Pro, and according to the Parallels manual, can use the Boot Camp Windows to boot into a Parallels virtual machine. I am chosing to make Boot Camp effective because some of my Windows applic... 23 Jun 2008 12:43
SuperDuper backup won't boot
I just got a MacBook Pro recently, migrating from my prior Powerbook. Today I tried to backup the MBP using Super Duper - going from the HD on the MBP to a partition on an external firewire HD. I had previously used that HD to backup the Powerbook, so I renamed it and as far as I know, backed up the MBP entir... 23 Jun 2008 20:58
IS THE JURY IN? Should I update from 10.3.9 to 10.5.x?
I have an iMac G5 with PPC 1.8GHZ and 1Gb of ram. I am needing to do some web design and thought I would try iWeb '08. I will have to upgrade to Leopard to do it. Cross-platform e-mail text size problems
Specifically, between Macs and Win boxes. I carry on e-mail correspondence with several Win users, most of whom just don't know enough about text sizes or fonts to be useful. Further, I started using Macs in 1988 and haven't looked back -- or used a Win box for more than a few weeks -- since, so I basically ha... 1 Jul 2008 23:37
Mozy and resource forks
It looks like Mozy has fixed the problems they were having with resource forks. I was one of the people who had problems with Mozy 1.0 not backing up resource forks, but the new version 1.0.1 has fixed the problem for me. I guess they intended to support resource forks in 1.0, but there were some bugs relat... 20 Jun 2008 13:16
Sparse Bundle
I created a sparse bundle, with a start size of 100 mb, then started to copy files to it. It ran out of space before I was able to copy everything to it. I thought sparse bundles automatically expand in size. Do I need to start over with a bigger start size? ... 23 Jun 2008 12:43
Back trying to replace Tbird with a decent Mac newsreader
I took a break from looking for a good Mac newsreader - my earlier experiences were frustrating at best. I appreciate the help some of you gave me back then. To date, I've tried, and rejected the following: NTNW - don't like multi-pane and could never get the NG list to download, even after numerous posts and... 30 Jun 2008 21:59
Image sizes in Photoshop and Indesign don't match
How can I get image sizes to match in Photoshop and Indesign? For example, in Photoshop I just saved a TIFF at a three-inch width. But when I placed the file into Indesign, the width is shown in the Control panel as 2.659 inches. Robert ... 21 Jun 2008 23:59
