From: techno guy on 17 Sep 2005 18:22 Hi i have a imac G4 and i was wondering if there is a firmware upgrade or something for USB 1.1 ports to be put so they can be USB 2.0? Would i be able to buy a firewire to USB 2.0 converter? if so where, i live in New Zealand, Hastings. and can i upgrade my GeForce4 MX graphics card VRAM up from 32MB? And last of all how much would it cost ruffly to buy a 512 SDRAM for my mac, (would i be able to put DDR ram in?) From: vze35xda@verizon.net on 17 Sep 2005 20:57 No, but if you buy an OS X compatible USB 2.0 card that will work. I put a Micro Innovations USB 2.0 card in my Dual G5 (533) and it worked just fine. The cards are pretty cheap ~ $20US. --jim

Your best option is to buy a PCI card with USB 2.0 ports. Any decent Mac vendor will sell you such a card for a few dollars; they're not expensive.

Oops. I just noticed you are asking about an iMac. No USB 2 for you. Period. Your best bet is to simply buy components that use firewire if you need fast data transfer capability. |
