As noted in the page describing the 1.5.1 update: <http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macbookproefifirmwareupdate151.h tml> [begin quote] "After the firmware is successfully applied to your Mac, your Boot ROM Version will be: MBP21.00A5.B08 or MBP31.0070.B07" [end quote] The "MBP21" or "MPB31" prefix relates to the revision of the MacBook Pro. This firmware update only applies to MacBook Pro models which have a Model ID of "MacBookPro2,1" or "MacBookPro3,1". That includes the following models: MacBook Pro (17-inch Core 2 Duo): October 2006 to June 2007 MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid/Late 2007): June 2007 to February 2008 MacBook Pro (17-inch Mid/Late 2007): June 2007 to February 2008 The current model (which you have) has a model ID of "MacBookPro4,1" and a description of "MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2008)" (or 17-inch), and it hasn't had a firmware update yet. The 1.5 update had the same text in its description, so it applied to the same models (and installed the same firmware as 1.5.1). Apple isn't very good at making this clearer in their description of firmware updates, but Software Update knew that it didn't apply to you, as does the updater package if you download it and run it manually. -- David Empson dempson(a)actrix.gen.nz
