Is the MBP EFI Firmware Update 1.5.1 only for those who applied version
1.5? When I run Software Update, it says there are no updates for my
computer (MacBook Pro, bought at Apple store 1.5 weeks ago). Nothing I
can see on the Apple site explains this. Does this mean that my MBP
truly doesn't need v1.5.1? My ROM version is a number prior to the one
that 1.5.1 updates it to.

From the information you've provided, it certainly seems like you are
due for th 1.5.1 update.

Perhaps Software Update simply isn't seeing the update for whatever
reason. You might look on Apple's web site to see if you can download the 1.5.1
installer.

I had already applied the 1.5 update on my mid 2007 15" MacBook Pro.

I downloaded the 1.5.1 updater from www.apple.com/support/downloads and
ran it. It said that I didn't need it.

I noted that the information on Apple's web site said that it would
update my firwmare to version MBP31.0070.B07, which is what I already
had.

Given the evidence, I expect the 1.5.1 updater is merely a fix for the
updater application or the process for installing the firmware. The
actual firmware it contains is the same as for the 1.5 updater.

This probably means that the only people who would benefit from 1.5.1
are those who were having trouble installing 1.5. If you have
successfully installed the firmware update from version 1.5, you don't
need 1.5.1.

I never got a notification from Software Update to install 1.5. My
firmware is version MBP41.00C1.B03. As of just now, Software Update says
nothing about the need for a firmware update. Since my MBP is running
swimmingly, I guess I shouldn't be concerned...
