From: Scott Andersen on 15 Mar 2006 18:02 I'm running a dual boot system with WinXP and the download version of Mandrake 10. I have a Lexmark X1100 all in one printer. Lexmark does not make any linux drivers. Is there a printer that I select that will emulate my printer? I don't want to have to buy another printer because it's not compatible with my OS and I want to go native linux. Thanks, Scott

A quick Google search - which I'm sure you could have done yourself, but anyway... ;-) - lead me to loads of references regarding the Lexmark X1100. Here is a link on which this printer is being discussed...: http://www.linuxprinting.org/pipermail/lexmark-list/2004q3/002658.html And this is an important quote from that page...: <quote> Lexmark doesn't have a driver for the X1100. However we can get it to work (and print perfectly in color, too!) using the z600 driver here: http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/downloads.cgi?ccs=229:1:0:389:0:0&emeaframe=&fileID=1151 </quote> You can follow the rest of the instructions there if you have a Mandrake 10.1 system. You didn't specify whether you have 10.0 or 10.1, and there's a big difference between those two, namely that 10.0 still comes with /devfs,/ while 10.1 makes use of /udev./ > I don't want to have to buy another printer because it's not > compatible with my OS and I want to go native linux. You may want to upgrade to the newer Mandriva 2006 and download all the updates before you go off on setting up your printer. That way, you can skip all the steps about getting the latest CUPS, etc. Neither Mandrake 10.0 nor Mandrake 10.1 are supported any longer. The newer Mandriva 2006 may also save you from further worries in regards to hardware support that you could be coming across in your older 10.x distro. Hope this helps... ;-) -- With kind regards, *Aragorn* (Registered GNU/Linux user #223157)
