Well I've been doing quite a bit of "experimenting" with the
lantronix, the BBS, and my daughters PC and I think I may have it all
worked out.

So in case anyone wants to call in, it will be online starting
tomorrow for beta testing!

Thanks a lot!

Interesting ports on 76.196.57.93:
Not shown: 1712 filtered ports
PORT STATE SERVICE
23/tcp closed telnet
113/tcp closed auth

That means at least that the firewall does not block port 23 and
such. But also that the server is down (or blocked elsewhere) right now.

Well if you connect from inside a router between the computers you can
always connect because router's firewall works for the "outside" usually
only, plus NAT which also might prevent from connecting from the
outside. Assuming you have a router there.

But as the ports indicate "closed" that means it's okay, that just the
server might be down.

That was me! Actually, I got on just after seeing his message. Hit
enter, saw a "press delete/backspace" prompt, but was already hitting
the enter key. It seemed to crash at that point. I tried hitting
"backspace", but it didn't respond. I waited, then disconnected and
retried, thought I saw an attempted hangup "+++" - the modem escape -
and then nothing else. Could not reconnect thereafter...
