In my experience, somewhere between 100 and 150. There are of course a lot
of factors that affect this.

Others have answered your question about the number of songs.

FYI, without a memory card, you can still store some media files on
the SMT5600, under \Storage, but you have to manually put them there.
(Windows Media Player 10 will only sync correctly to a memory card on
the SMT5600, and not the internal memory.)

515 MB is passe' already.
Now mini-SDs with 1GB are available and I would recommend to buy it, not
anything less.
