I have a MacBook (2 Ghz Intel Core Duo from 2006) running OS X
10.4.11. I have a summer job where I will have to work with a
Microsoft Access database. What would people think are my best
options for working with the database on my MacBook (specifically,
options that don't require running Bootcamp)? Thanks for any thoughts
you might have.

Basecamp, Parallels, or VMWare Fusion. One way or another you've got to
run Windows to do that.

I've taken a look at VMWare Fusion and I think I'd be comfortable with
it. Just to ask a stupid question though, I'd need to buy a copy of
Windows as well as Fusion itself? So, I'm looking at spending $80 for
Fusion and then $150 for a version of Windows? Ouch.

Yep. Unfortunately, though, nothing on OS X reads Access databases. The
closest you will get is something like this:

Apparently CrossOver can handle Access 2000.

Worth downloading the trial, at least. CrossOver will set you back $60,
but you won't need a license for Windows at least.
