Actually, I see that I CAN save the jpg after sending the message to myself.
I can right-click on the image to get the option "Save Picture As...", and
now it works. And that's better than going through MS Paint, which
compresses the image.

Very good.

The image in the original message was "embedded" & the source most likely
was on the 'net somewhere, not on the Sender's computer so I don't think the
Mac had anything to do with it. You'll often see this in messages that have
been forwarded multiple times by AOL users (who still simply cannot resist
doing so for some reason).

No, I know the material was on the sender's computer because we've been
working on it for weeks. This is not a group of people forwarding jokes,
it's original material we're developing, and for some reason she decided to
make it into a jpg instead of a MS Word document or a PDF. And this is not
the first time I've had this problem with jpgs from this particular person.

And do you have any idea about the original error message I received about
the missing file?

Patient (demonstrating): "Doctor, it hurts when I do this!"
Doctor: "Don't do that."

Tell her not to do that.

(laughed out loud) OK, but the same thing happens when she sends me jpgs
from her camera.
