Hi,

I'm having an annoying problem: On one of my subscribed private MS
Newsgroups (microsoft.private.directaccess.smallbizserver2003) there is a
persistent "1 not downloaded" message in the status bar. Sometimes it says
"2 not downloaded," sometimes "3 not downloaded." The number of "not
downloaded" messages changes if I navigate away to another NG, but there is
always at least one message not downloaded. I have tried unsubscribing and
resubscribing, and I have tried all the OE maintenance options to no avail.

There are thousands of messages, so I haven't been able to locate the
undownloaded messages.

How can I resolve this?

It is what we call a ghost message. The server thinks it's there, but it
really isn't. It is a very common problem with news servers, especially the
MS Private groups. You're not missing any message.

Thanks for the quick response, Bruce. I'm not worried about missing
messages. I just want to get rid of the warning. Is there no way?

Right-click the newsgroup in Folders pane and select Catch Up. (But you'll
probably have to do it everytime you open the NG.)

That's what I've been doing, but it doesn't resolve the problem. It's
annoying, but on a 1-10 scale, with 10 being losing your house, it's just
not that big a deal. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
