Next: looking for pc-hp49g cable
From: John H Meyers on 6 Jan 2008 06:06 A "Secret Santa" presented me with a WinCE 3.0 (ARM SA1110) Pocket PC, complete with onboard CF card slot, but no cable or cradle for otherwise linking to desktop PC. This beauty (Intermec 70) is even smaller than an HP42S (fits neatly inside the same slip case), so it naturally begs to become a more portable (and powerful) HP42/48/49/50 wolf in a sheepskin case, if only I can get a suitable emulator into it. I'm therefore wondering which, if any, emulators can work in it (any chance of http://www.hpcalc.org/details.php?id=6286 working?), and whether it can be installed via ferrying files on the CF card, rather than having to use "Active Sync" as directed (the latter is not yet available here, due to lack of either a cable for the device or any IR support on my desktop PC). All the candidates I could find are http://www.hpcalc.org/search.php?query=emu+arm so I hope that there's something usable, thanks. [r->] [OFF]

The easiest is probably to copy everything onto an SD card and run it from there (run File Explorer, navigate to the appropriate directory, and click on Free42Binary or Free42Decimal). Running the *.cab file will install the executable in the Program Files directory, and it will create a shortcut in the Start menu. ---------- sdb -- What's seen on your screen? http://PcScreenWatch.com sdbuse1 on mailhost bigfoot.com
From: Raymond Del Tondo on 7 Jan 2008 00:36 AFAIK it won't run on WinCE 3.0 . According to their web site docs, both Free42 (from Thomas) and Emu42 (from Christoph) require Pocket PC 2002 (ARM) or later... However John could simply try, and then decide whether throwing away the old CE machine;-) HTH Raymond "sylvan butler" <ZsdbUse1+noZs_0801(a)Zbigfoot.Zcom.invalid> schrieb im Newsbeitrag news:slrnfo2uga.tj2.ZsdbUse1+noZs_0801(a)sdba64.internal... > On Sun, 06 Jan 2008 05:06:02 -0600, John H Meyers > <jhmeyers(a)nomail.invalid> wrote: >> A "Secret Santa" presented me with a WinCE 3.0 (ARM SA1110) >> Pocket PC, complete with onboard CF card slot, > >> I'm therefore wondering which, if any, emulators can work in it >> (any chance of http://www.hpcalc.org/details.php?id=6286 working?), >> and whether it can be installed via ferrying files on the CF card, > > You should consider (strongly recommended) > http://free42.sourceforge.net/ > > Never installed it on a pocketPC, but the readme sounds like it should > work just fine for you: > ------- > Installing Free42: > > Copy Free42Decimal.cab (or Free42Binary.cab, or both) to your Pocket PC > and run it. Many thanks to both you and Sylvan Butler for this vital tip. Well, I ended up installing "Emu48m114" http://www.hpcalc.org/details.php?id=6120 http://www.hpcalc.org/hp48/pc/emulators/emu48m114.zip After adding some KML files and my current Emu48 (Win32) ROM file, this turns out to work almost perfectly on my WinCE 3.0 ARM device, usable even on its small monochrome display (while wearing reading specs :) My ROM file contains my user memory backup, restoring which (on the emulated calclator) produces a perfectly working emulated HP49G! The only problems are: o On startup, it recognizes only my HP49G KML file; doesn't seem to recognize my HP48GX KML files at all, although all were copied (with ROMs) into the same program folder. o If program is stopped, then later restarted, it starts with the same TTRM as upon first running; it doesn't, in other words, seem to save (or recognize) the current RAM file, to pick up where it last left off. Any more helpful clues will be most gratefully welcomed, thanks! [r->] [OFF] |
