From: Teilhard Knight on 30 May 2005 22:49 As some of you know, I recently installed Solaris in a Toshiba laptop. There are many things that do not work, but I'll start with sound. The speaker icon in the taskbar of JDS is crossed diagonally with a red line. I can hear some beeps some times but the machine is silent otherwise. I do not find something like the Linux "alsamixer" to see if the channels are muted. In short, I do not know what to do to get sound. Looking at Windows I see that my sound card (Windows Audio) is a Realtek AC97 Audio. But if I look in PCI/PnP, I get: "ATI SB200-AC'97 Audio Driver". I do not know the meaning of PCI/PnP. I'll appreciate any help you can give me. Teilhard

You can download many sound drivers (free for personal use, but with a continuous 4 month expiry period) at: http://www.opensound.com/ Casper

I downloaded and installed all the drivers, but to no avail. Or is it that I have to do something else after the installation? Teilhard.

I downloaded them and installed them and I could glimpse at the end of the installation a reference to ATI IXP. I was happy, because in Linux the Alsa module which makes my system sound is snd-atiixp. But unfortunately the system remains dead. No sound whatsoever. As the package is a collection of drivers, I wonder whether I have to pick one somehow, and do something in order to get audio. Do you think this is the case, and what to do? Thanks for your feedback. Teilhard.
