From: Darnko on 14 Sep 2005 17:50 I had recently added a D-Link Wireless Router and almost everything is working on this Network except Two Computers that are wired on a D-Link 604 used as a switch in that I did not plug my connection from the Linksys to the WAN port. I have two Computers after the modem getting internet and Networked from Linksys Router, then a line to 524 Router from Linksys Router connected not in WAN but in a port. I have Lines from that router(524) going to other Comps. This worked fine as a network until I added Wireless (604).I used Computer(3) line out of Router (524)to plug into WAN on Wireless(604) and then Plug Computer(3) into port on Wireless Router.Only wireless is my Laptop right now. It can see a connect to all Computers. Computer(1) will not connect with Computer(3). Computer(1) has connection to Wireless Laptop in the Network. Computer(1) and (3) I cannot get to connect to each other on this network. Computer (1) comes out of the Linksys Router Line from Linksys Router to Port on D-Link Router (Nothing in WAN) Wireless gets on by Computer (3) into Wireless Routers WAN port and then a line from port on wireless Router to Computer (3). Is there a particular reason for using the WAN port of whichever D-Link you are so configuring? Is there a particular reason to have so many routers? Simplest would have been either a D-Link DWL-2100A, or the like, or a Linksys WAP54G, or the like. I set up a friend with a D-Link DWL-2100A connected to a D-Link DI-704UP. He tried a Linksys WAP54G at first, but I couldn't get that to work. Exchanged the Linksys WAP for the D-Link WAP, and it all works, easy enough. BTW, I also had trouble, out of the box, with a new Linksys BEFSR11, so I am pretty sour on Linksys products. Anyway, your system may be needlessly complex for what you are trying to do. If your intent is to have all computers seeing each other, you should not be using a router to separate the network by plugging into a WAN port. Frankly, if the Linksys router is a four-port model, I would connect the wired computers to the first three ports, and the wireless router to port four; using a LAN port on the wireless router and whichever end of that link (Linksys, or D-Link) which can act as an uplink; or let the ports negotiate an auto-sense link, if they are capable. If you have more than three wired computers, the additional computers on the remaining wired ports of the wireless router. Disable DHCP on the wireless router, and manually assign an IP address on its LAN side. This converts the wireless router into a combined wireless access point and switch. All networked devices will get their IP addresses by DHCP from the Linksys router. If I have misunderstood your intent, please explain what you want in detail. Just whether you want all computers to have full access to each other, or some computers to be isolated from the others. You need to turn one DHCP service off (usually the wired one) and move the Internet access modem to the wireless one. Thanks Norman you are a man of straight shooting, my writing numbers in wrong is of no consicuence, as they can only be used for what they are? So many routers two was fine as for the layout I had, and it has been built as I go along, hense the Wireless Router. The ports are four without the WAN, yes, but when I put the one line that carries connectivity over to there to 604, already plus I have another wired, =5. The only way I was being able to get wireless on Internet was to put one Computer through Wireless Router WAN. I may have missed something but out of all of it only the two could not see each other. preetty good I thought, what reason I don't know. There is nothing wrong with designing a system how ever over complex or whatever to add to ones learning and experience and understanding a hands on project gives.
