Just bought myself an O2Atom and I want to sync with my Outlook calendar,
contacts and notes. I don't need to sync with email. I was able to do this
with my old HP5550 and also O2 XDA2i. With the Atom, it complains that there
is very low space available on the device and I should delete any large
files. I have nothing on it apart from the default progs which come with it.
My calendar file is quite large, about 10 years appts. I have upgraded to
Activesync 4.1 and it can sync with 1 pc but it took about 12 hours to
complete and now with my 2nd pc , it seems to be unable to sync.
I get a message on the Atom 'storage memory is critically low, delete
programs etc etc'.
Any ideas?

Hello,

Did you have it sync the entire ten years? By default it would have only
done a few weeks back.

Yes I disabled the 'only sync prev 2 weeks' and it therefore should sync the
entire calendar.

If I check in the memory details I see the following
Storage Total 22.11mb
in use 21.55 MB
FREE 0.55 MB

Program Total 54.17 MB
In Use 22.41 MB
Free 31.76 MB

This is with just the default progs installed so I am guessing that the unit
has inadequate Storage space when delivered . I also am guessing that this
is the reason why I cannot sync a large Calendar file.

Okay, that's really interesting. According to the O2 site, the Atom should
have 128MB of ROM in the device. If you are seeing only 22MB of Storage
available, that means that O2 is using a wopping 104MB for applications?!?!

I just can't believe that's right...

My Dell x50v has 128MB and I have a total of 91MB available for me to store
applications/information in.

Any other O2 Atom users out there seeing the same issue?

Can you tell us what's the size of the file \pim on your Pocket PC?

The PDA shouldn't be used to store the entire calendar - that's why it
allows you to sync a specific subset. The idea is to use as a planner, but
not an archive - this is stored on your PC.

Ten years of appointments can very much use a lot of memory - even if this
device had 2x its current memory configuration it could still complain about
the memory space.

The long synchronisation is due to the large volume of data. The memory used
on new devices is flash memory, and this is slower than RAM. Another reason
to only sync what you really need...
