I've received several complaints about the Cottonwood BBS website not
displaying correctly. The site that it was hosted on (hpg.ig.com.br)
was a bit flakey, so I've decided to move it. Finding another free
website that will allow non-standard file extensions wasn't easy.
Amazingly, the one I ended up with that met all my needs was AOL! They
now offer free website hosting (although its a bit hidden away and not
openly advertised).

So... The *new* home of the Cottonwood BBS Informational Website is:

http://hometown.aol.com/cottonwoodbbs/

This website provides information on the BBS, as well as tips on
connecting. Also featured is a photo of the BBS's current setup.

Enjoy! :-)

I'm going to call this BBS eventually. I want to remember what it was
like to call a BBS with my C64. I had said in an earlier post that I
didn't have a modem for my C64. That isn't entirely true. I was
digging through some stuff earlier and realized I had a user-port to
RS232 converter I had forgotten about. I know somehwere in the house I
have a packed-away external 28.8K modem. So. Technically I should be
able to hook them together and call your BBS.

It has probably been at least 17 years since I called a BBS with a
Commodore computer using CCGMS. I hope I still have a copy, I may
have to go download CCGMS somewhere. I think it is a single file,
right? I should be able to load from a 1581. In fact, if memory
serves, at one point many years ago my 1541 disk drive died and it was
my only drive. But I still had a cassette drive. So I went to a
friend's house and copied CCGMS from his disk over to a tape. So for
about a month I was calling BBSs using only a tape drive and CCGMS
until I could afford to get my 1541 repaired. I can still hear in my
mind that little bell sound it makes when it starts up with the black
screen and friendly colors. I definatly miss the days of CCGMS.. Can
you tell?

David,
Yes, it's a single file. And you're in luck because I have a copy of
CCGMS 5.5 available for download on the BBS's website. Here's a direct
link to the file:

Of course, you'll need a way to transfer that file to your C= computer
if you're not using a C= to access the Internet. If nothing else
works, however, you can send me a private e-mail with your mailing
address, and I'll be happy to send you a copy of CCGMS on a 5.25" disk.

I have a 1581 disk drive and I use Omniflop on my Windows XP computer
to write directly to 1581-formatted disks.. so it will be a snap. I
just have to get it all setup first.
