From: David on 28 Jan 2006 14:38 New drive installed easily enough. Seems to be reading disc OK and just doing its first test burn copying my Tiger disc. But the "Disc Burning" part of "About this Mac" reveals the the info below (see burn support). Does this matter? I'll be testing burning from other apps shortly but someone else has not doubt already been here. What gives (or doesn't give)? Firmware Revision: 1.37 Interconnect: ATAPI Burn Support: Yes (Unsupported) Profile Path: None Cache: 0 KB Reads DVD: Yes CD-Write: -R, -RW DVD-Write: -R, -RW Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO Media: No

However, mine seems to have more disk modes than yours: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-110D: Firmware Revision: 1.17 Interconnect: ATAPI Burn Support: Yes (Unsupported) Profile Path: None Cache: 2000 KB Reads DVD: Yes CD-Write: -R, -RW DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO Media: No and more memory. I guess not all pioneer 110Ds are equal! The DVD-writer in my iBook got a lot more write modes and better burn support after a system update. Might be worth downloading the last full combo update and re-running it. -- Jon B real email to usenet at jonbradbury dot com

I don't have any of the latter DVDs yet so I can't tell if it'll cope with 'em. I've tested the new drive burning DVD +R and it's pretty quick and the disc seems fine. I've tried CD burning from iTunes and that's fine too (and very quick!). Just don't know about the unlisted formats. I'll get some DL DVD discs tomorrow and see. I notice that our firmware versions are different. Yours is 1.17, mine's 1.37 and on the Pioneer website there's a new version (1.39). I vaguely remember seeing some threads elsewhere about flashing the drive. While writing this I just seen Jon B's advice about running the Combo update. I'll give that a go. > > PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-110D: > > Firmware Revision: 1.17 > Interconnect: ATAPI > Burn Support: Yes (Unsupported) > Profile Path: None > Cache: 2000 KB > Reads DVD: Yes > CD-Write: -R, -RW > DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL > Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes > Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes > Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO > Media: No > > and more memory. Woody wrote: <snip> > However, mine seems to have more disk modes than yours While waiting for the download of the last combo update (120 mb) I returned to system profiler for and while it's still showing Burn Support as "Yes" (unsupported) the other stuff that's in Woody's (memory and those modes) has appeared. Maybe my G5 is taking it's time to get aquainted with the new drive? |
