I would consider this a valuable functionality.
This apart from how difficult it is to accomplish ....
Also apart from that it is increasingly easy to carry your own
OpenOffice.org environment (on a USB-stick).
Just making a presentation and sending is as an executable (other than
PDF or HMTL) is super.

A couple of things to keep in mind, however, are that:

1) this would increase greatly the _size_ of the presentation. All the
discussions on a "lighter" OO.o or the possibility to download only
some components always end up saying that the current code is so
integrated that "smaller" components would be almost as big as the
current suite. Consequently, _any_ presentation, even very small
and simple ones, would become as big as OO.o itself....

2) .exe files are automatically discarded or flagged as spam by
antivirus sw, if not deleted by many users without even looking at
them...

Said this, maybe there already is a way to do what Max asked for:

a) send a link to the "portable OO.o"
(http://portableapps.com/apps/office/openoffice_portable), together
with the presentation,

b) create a auto-executable archive of _both_ the presentation and
portable openoffice, so that the receiver gets only one file, but
when he or she clicks on it, portable-ooo is started right _on_ the
presentation.

Not using Windows, I don't know how to do b) myself (and it doesn't
solve the problems above anyway), but I'm interested in knowing how it
could be done.

Ciao,
Marco

One word: Flash!

So the Flash export should be improved much...

c) export as a flash which could be run on almost any browser...
Which impress already does.

Again with mi idea.

I think i must defend it. I agree it will obviously increes the size of the presentation, but, when the user wants to proyect it, usually it burns it on a cd, or in a USB pen drive, so about the space, i think it wont be a problem.
Also, i have a question: are you sure it will be smaller (in space) to carry the presentation AND the portable version of Open Office. This includes writer, base, impress, etc.

Cmon, partners, obviously, a simple impress viewer will be smaller than all the Office suite, plus, this is one of the problems of the freeware software. How different is:

1) When you finish your presentation, just click EXPORT>> TO EXECUTABLE WINDOWS
2) Save it and go

Than

1) Save your presentation in Open Office native (opd) (with the posibility for others to modify it)
2) Go http://portableapps.com/apps/office/openoffice_portable and download portable Open Office
It is only 64.8Mb, so with a DiAL-UP internet coneccion (which is a lot common here, in third world countries) with a download rate of 5.4 kbps you will only be 3.33 hours late.
3) Unpack Open Office.
4) Save both and go

So as you see, it is a problem. Maybe its very easy, but, as i say before, thats one of the problems of freeware software. We must made the software more "for dumbs"

Check this example:

Me, as user, what whould i prefeer?

Spend $150 mexican pesos (13.63 USD) in a Microsoft Office pirate copy (which more users here in mexico have; anyone have a license) however when im makin presentations ill just click save, and i wont have any problems.

OR

I buy a LEGAL copy of Open Office by paying 70 mexican pesos (Around 6.36 USD) and i simple install it as microsoft office (Which is alredy a solluted problem) and when im making presentations, i just save it as exe file, and i have no problems. In addition, i can use school's broad-band internet conection to download Open Office, so i will only spend 2.90 MXN in the CD (0.26 USD)
