From: hypnoticmonkeyscratcher on 18 Mar 2008 14:53 Heya Just got my first tablet pc after wanting one for aaaaages, longer than I can remember lol! Bought a neat little HP Pavilion tx2050 and am in love! Just couple of questions though, that may seem really dumb, but just that I am not sure about! When writing on the screen in apps like OneNote or Ink Seine or whatever, is it ok to lean my hand on the rest of the screen? It seems ok, but I am worried about making the screen greasy?? Also, can anyone tell me how you are supposed to clean the screens? Obviously they will get mucky easily cos of fingerprints and the like and am sure you can't use any ordinary cleaner on them!!! Answers to one or both questions would be appreciated so I can carry on using my tablet! Cheers!! Andy
From: Beverly Howard [Ms-MVP/MobileDev] on 18 Mar 2008 18:31 good questions... _If_ you can touch the screen without that creating input (i.e. touchscreen vs wacom) there's no problem... assume you would not be asking the question if your hand was seen as input pressure. >> greasy palms << Think if you asked ten experts how to clean laptop screens, you would get ten different answers. First, check your manual... it may offer specific suggestions. In general, don't use anything strong or containing solvents of any kind. In addition, you should try to avoid getting cleaner and/or water in the joint between clear plastic and the frame. Personally, what I have been doing for years is; Use a soft paper, towel, (i.e Viva) wet it so it will barely drip, then wipe the screen softly being careful to keep water away from the edges with the goal being to float any dust or dirt away from the plastic. Then put a tiny amount of diswashing soap on the tip of a finger and mix that into the water over the screen. I wouldn't use any "window cleaner." Using a second damp, almost wet, paper towel, remove as much water and soap as possible, then dry with one or more dry sheets. The primary goals are to float and remove any dirt avoiding any chance of rubbing it in, the same with surface grease and end up absorbing everything into towels. From: On Request on 18 Mar 2008 21:46 Possibly not quite relevant to your situation, but -- for my AIPTEK graphics tablet surface I printed a grid on to a transparency and have it taped to the surface. This protects the surface and also gives me a nice grid to help me keep my inking work orderly; and by using a transparency, I can see the hotkeys around the top and sides. <hypnoticmonkeyscratcher(a)googlemail.com> wrote in message news:cf6f05d1-192e-4cbf-aa78-936e12179f95(a)s37g2000prg.googlegroups.com... > Heya > > Just got my first tablet pc after wanting one for aaaaages, longer > than I can remember lol! From: Chris H on 19 Mar 2008 11:21 On Tablet PCs with the digitizer, you can rest your hand on the screen without an issue. With the touch versions, there should be built-in "palm rejection" which does a fairly good job of recognizing that it isn't the specific pen input. As to cleaning? I use the mild cleaner spray from our local Wal-Mart Vision Center (for plastic lens glasses) which doesn't scratch or damage the surface. I spray onto one of their soft cloths, rub it together, and then gently wipe the surface. No problem for about four years on one of my Tablets. I think you'll find trying to use a protective plastic sheet over the screen takes away from the feel (and use) of the Tablet PC. -- Chris H.
