Two years!
So why all of a sudden do you need sound?

First thing to do is go to the control panel and then the System folder and
then the Hardware and then Device Manager and remove the sound card. Click
OK, getting out of Control panel and then Reboot the computer and see if
that doesn't get you your sound back. If it doesn't then you will want to
see if there may be a newer driver for the sound card. The software may be
either corrupt or you may have installed something during those two years
that either corrupted the sound drivers or is using the memory that the
sound card needs. Go back to the Device Manager and right click on the sound
card and click to Update Driver. Choose to allow the search to go through
the Internet* to download a newer driver than the one that's been installed
on the computer.

* You will need to be connected to the Internet during this process for the
search to take place.

Well......... without knowing your OS I can't, however you can check in your
control panel under Sounds and audio devices (or multimedia in win 98) to se
i f you have any devices installed (software devices). That is your starting
place. Incidently this is the same place to go to place the sound properties
icn in the task bar. just look for a checkbox to "Show volume control on the
taskbar.

you might also look in the Device manager to see if there are any device
conflicts.
